Santa Fe Preparatory School is where she received her diploma in 1986. She studied theatre in drama and graduated from Northwestern University with a theatre degree. Gunn was an undergraduate in the British American Drama Academy in London during the fall of 1988. She shared a home with Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn is well known for her character Skyler White on the AMC drama Breaking. In the years 2013 and 2014, she was awarded a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Artist in an Drama Series. In August 2013, she wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times examining the negative comments made by people about her portrayal.
